News: Fork Parker’s Crunch Out will be available for $49.99 but be limited to 1,000 physical copies so order soon if you want one.
Devolver Digital and Megacat Studios revealed Fork Parker’s Crunch Out earlier today. Fork Parker's Crunch Out is an original game exclusively designed for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and preorders are now available at megacatstudios.com for $49.99. The entirety of Devolver Digital’s profits will benefit the video game industry's Take This organization, which is a nonprofit dedicated to informing the games community about mental health issues, providing education and services within the industry and tackling mental illness prevention.
Fork Parker’s Crunch Out is a classic arcade-style game featuring the notorious Devolver Digital CFO as he bootstraps a ragtag group of game developers from a downtrodden garage studio to a high rise mega corporation using only his love of profit and questionable motivation tactics. Deadlines are not to be missed and Fork will use any and all methods of encouragement to keep his team focused and productive as they work to get their next big hit out on time and hit their bonuses, which are unfortunately tied to the game’s critical reception.
"As demonstrated in our 2016 white paper "Crunch Hurts", crunch is an unsustainable practice that exploits game creators' passion at the expense of their physical and mental wellness," said Kate Edwards, board member at Take This. "We applaud and appreciate Devolver Digital's and Megacat Studios' creative approach to exposing the reality of crunch while generously supporting our mission."
The game itself comes on an authentic cartridge and packaged in a premium SNES era game box with a classic game manual that will be inevitably lost by a younger sibling. Fork Parker’s Crunch Out is limited to 1,000 physical copies and sold exclusively at megacatstudios.com and at select independent game retailers around the United States.
“When I was first approached about a charity game I assumed this was a clever tax shelter scam and was all for it,” said Devolver Digital CFO Fork Parker. “After being explained several times, at length, that this was to actually help the good people of Take This I reluctantly agreed.”
Take This is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charity founded in 2013 by veteran journalists Russ Pitts and Susan Arendt and clinical psychologist Dr. Mark Kline, Psy.D. in response to the tragic suicide of a colleague. TakeThis, Inc. seeks to inform our community about mental health issues, to provide education about mental disorders and mental illness prevention, and to reduce the stigma of mental illness.
Take This provides friends, family and coworkers of those suffering from emotional distress with options for intervention and education about mental wellness. The organization educates greater institutions about effective methods of helping employees who suffer from emotional issues in order to promote healthier and more productive work environments.
