News: You can check out Concrete Genie this holiday season and immediately see the inspiration it drew from inFamous Second Son.

”Concrete

Concrete Genie has been in development for many years but Sony has finally revealed when we can play it. Concrete Genie will be arriving on the PlayStation in October. Concrete Genie is a very interesting concept where you can paint creatures on the wall of a building and then they will come to life and help you out. I was able to play a bit of it at E3 2018 and came away impressed with the concept and execution that they had at that time. Over a year later I’m expecting even better gameplay. For those who have played inFamous: Second Son, the painting mechanic in Concrete Genie is just like that. You can use motion controls on your PS4 controller to create your masterpieces and it actually works pretty well.

To celebrate the announcement of the release date Sony has released a new trailer (see below). Concrete Genie follows protagonist Ash on his personal journey to paint his hometown of Denska back to life. He will have to overcome some challenges to do it, including trying to avoid a group of bullies that like to make trouble for him. As you get farther into the game there is an interesting gameplay twist that changes things up but don’t worry, I won’t spoil that here.

When Concrete Genie arrives in October it will be at a very attractive price point. Sony has revealed that the standard version will be available for $29.99 in the United States and $39.99 in Canada. There will also be a Digital Deluxe version that will run for $39.99 in the United States and $49.99 in Canada. Regardless of the version, you pick you will also receive two PlayStation VR modes so you can have this experience in virtual reality.

The standard version of Concrete Genie will simply come with the game. If you go the Digital Deluxe route though you will receive the following:

  • Concrete Genie game

  • Digital Soundtrack

  • Digital Art Book

  • Pond Design Pack

  • Lighthouse Dynamic Theme

  • In my opinion, that isn’t bad for an extra $10 and quite honestly, I will probably be picking up the Digital Deluxe edition myself. As a part of the announcement today Sony also revealed that you can now pre-order Concrete Genie. If you choose to do so you will receive the following items:

  • Concrete Genie Avatar Set

  • Denska Dynamic Theme

  • No word yet on if this will be available at a later time for purchase but if you plan on picking up Concrete Genie, why not just pre-order it and get this additional content for free?

In addition to all of this Sony confirmed that Concrete Genie will launch with a photo mode. This photo mode will have a special time-lapse style ‘Replay’ feature that will allow you to show how you put your artistic masterpiece together.

Concrete Genie will arrive on the PlayStation 4 on October 8. You have the two aforementioned versions to choose from as well as those pre-order bonuses. Check out the trailer below and tell us what you think. Will you be picking up Concrete Genie when it launches this holiday season?
