News: Sony has announced that they are taking away some functionality from their web-based PlayStation Store.
Sony has revealed that some big changes are coming to the PlayStation Store. The changes will take place over the course of the next week beginning on October 21 and going through October 26. If you are on mobile you will notice the changes on October 28. So what exactly is changing? Once the new update is available you will no longer be able to do the following:
Buy PlayStation 3 games and add-ons
Buy PSP (PlayStation Portable) games and add-ons
Buy PlayStation Vita games and add-ons
Buy Apps
Buy Themes
Buy Avatars
You will still be able to buy these items, however, you will need the hardware to do so. For example, if you want to buy a PS3 game on the store you will actually have to plug in your PlayStation 3 and use the store on that console, instead of the much easier and convenient route of doing it through your web store like you can do now. The same goes for PSP and PS Vita games. Additionally, Sony is taking away the Wishlist feature. Any games that you have on that will be removed. No word yet on if you can still utilize a wishlist on your console, however the way Sony phrased it, it sounds like that popular feature might be disappearing altogether.
Of course, your previously purchased PS3, PSP, and PS Vita content will still be available for download. Your existing PS4 apps, themes, and avatars will remain on your PS4 console.
What do you think of these changes? Will they affect you at all? Did you ever use PlayStation’s website to buy your games in lieu of using the store on the console(s)? Tell us what you think below.
