News: Square Enix has announced that we will be receiving a new entry in the Theatrhythm franchise that covers Final Fantasy and other popular titles.

”Theatrhythm

Square Enix had a pretty big presence during the Nintendo Direct today and one of the surprise announcements was the return of Final Fantasy Theatrhythm. Theatrhythm Final Bar Line will arrive in early 2023 and it will be available on the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. It should also be playable on the PlayStation 5 via backward compatibility. For those who are unfamiliar with this series, Theatrhythm Final Bar Line will be a rhythm-action game with carefully selected music tracks across the entire Final Fantasy series. It will include popular songs such as One Winged Angel from Final Fantasy VII, the Opening Theme from Final Fantasy, Who Brings Shadow from Final Fantasy XIV, Suteki Da Ne (Isn’t It Wonderful?) from Final Fantasy X, and much more. There will be 385 music tracks from across the entire Final Fantasy franchise.

The way that you play the game is simple, you simply push the buttons in time with the beat. Doing this successfully will allow you to match the triggers that are moving across the screen. There will be four difficulty settings making sure that just about anyone should be able to play, whether you are a veteran of this series or someone just jumping in for the first time. There will also be online Multi Battles where everyone can play together. You will be able to interfere with other players and make good use of your Burst abilities to try and turn the tables and achieve victory.

Theatrhythm Final Bar Line will feature over 100 characters for you to choose from. They will be cute, chibi versions of classic Final Fantasy characters that will battle it out on the screen as you keep the rhythm going with your button presses. There will also be a music player and theatre mode in the game so if you don’t feel like actually playing the game, you can sit back and enjoy the music tracks and movies you have collected up to that point.

In addition to all of that music from Final Fantasy, Square Enix has revealed that there will be DLC available that will contain music from other popular franchises. The other franchises that will be represented include the following:

  • Nier - Song of the Ancients and more…

  • Octopath Traveler - Decisive Battle II and more…

  • Chrono Trigger - Corridors of Time and more…

  • Legend of Mana - Hometown of Domina and more…

  • Romancing Saga Minstrel Song - Ardent Rhythm and more…

  • There will also be a Digital Deluxe Edition that includes the DLC songs, plus 27 additional exclusives for this version. Some of those songs include:

  • Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition - Sound of the Wind

  • Final Fantasy X - Zanarkand

  • Final Fantasy IX - Melodies of Life ~ Final Fantasy

  • Be sure to check out the trailer below and tell us what you think about this new entry in the Theatrhythm franchise. Theatrhythm Final Bar Line is scheduled for release on February 16, 2023, on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 (should also be playable on PlayStation 5 via backward compatibility). Will you be picking it up?
