News: Whether you are playing your favorite game or stuck on the computer at work, bluelight glasses are becoming a necessity.

”Gunnar”

For those who might spend a majority of their day in front of a screen, whether it is for work or for pleasure, eye strain can become a real issue. Staring at a screen for so long can make some people extra tired and for some, dry eyes can become an issue. I know I have certainly had this issue from time to time. Gunnar looks to try and solve that issue with their line of glasses. While Gunnar glasses have been primarily marketed towards gamers and other individuals that might use a screen all day, anyone can use them. They are available in both non-prescription and prescription, so you are able to use this product regardless of your eyesight.

Gunnar glasses offer a few different layers of protection for the user. The lenses have a G-Shield coating, which makes them anti-reflective and smudge-resistant. They also have blue light protection and can block 100% UV. They are designed to limit exposure to the lights that your monitor or television screen is putting out. These glasses also offer a tiny bit of magnification to try and reduce eye strain and squinting, which can help limit your eyes potentially getting dry. This can potentially also help those who might receive headaches after a long day of looking at screens but of course, consult your own doctor for remedies that might work for you.

Gunnar recently sent us three different pairs of glasses to try out and see how they worked. They sent us the Overwatch Reaper glasses, the Fremont glasses, and the Campbell glasses. Each one has a different shape and style, and we will go into more detail about each one below.

Overwatch Reaper: $69 (plus tax + shipping)

  • Product Type: Non-prescription, Prescription, Sunglasses

  • Frame Color: Black Ash

  • Lens Tint: Amber

  • Included with Purchase

  • Officially Licensed Custom Microfiber Pouch

  • Officially Licensed Custom Microfiber Cleaning Cloth

  • 12-month warranty

  • This was the first pair of glasses that I tried out for extended sessions of both doing work on the computer, as well as gaming. Recently I have been going through big games such as Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and WWE 2K25. After wearing these glasses for my entire workday, I noticed that my eyes weren’t as tired as they normally would be when I didn’t wear these at all. There are times at night when I would get really dry eyes and it could get really uncomfortable. These glasses helped in a big way towards overcoming that.

The form factor of this particular pair of glasses is similar to driver's glasses. What I really like about them is it can block out light from the side as well. It initially took me a little while to get used to wearing these as this pair of glasses fit pretty snugly on my head. Obviously people have different shaped faces and heads so this is going to vary from person to person. I did eventually get used to it though and really liked how it blocked all other light out and let me concentrate on what was in front of me, whether that was trying to get work done or advance in one of those aforementioned games. The Overwatch Reaper glasses feature multi-barrel hinges. The frames are emblazoned with Reaper’s iconic logo as well.

Fremont: $99 (plus tax + shipping)

  • Product Type: Non-prescription, Prescription

  • Frame Color: Onyx

  • Lens Tint: Amber & Clear Pro

  • Included with Purchase

  • Tri-Fold Glasses Case

  • Microfiber Pouch

  • Microfiber Cleaning Cloth

  • 12-month Warranty

  • The Fremont glasses offer you a bit more freedom compared to the Overwatch Reaper pair. These are more like traditional glasses, so anyone who has worn glasses before knows what to expect here. The Fremont glasses also have flexible spring hinges. It features a contemporary rectangular silhouette as well. The lenses have a G-Shield coating, which makes them anti-reflective and smudge-resistant. They sit comfortably on my face for long periods of time and fit the shape of my face a tad better than the Overwatch Reaper pair. In my everyday life, I wear either prescription glasses or contacts, and these feel a lot like my normal glasses, which I like. I also really enjoyed wearing contacts and the non-prescription form of these glasses, which gives me the benefits of both. These frames are fairly lightweight and didn’t hurt after wearing them for the majority of the day.

Campbell: $99 (plus tax + shipping)

  • Product Type: Non-Prescription, Prescription

  • Frame Color: Onyx

  • Lens Tint: Amber & Clear Pro

  • Included with Purchase

  • Tri-Fold Glasses Case

  • Microfiber Pouch

  • Microfiber Cleaning Cloth

  • 12-month Warranty

  • The Campbell glasses are similar to the Fremont pair. The major difference is that the Campbell has round lenses. The Campbell glasses also have flexible spring hinges. While I was testing this particular pair, I also enjoyed how lightweight it felt on my face. The frames are made of acetate and stainless steel. The lenses have a G-Shield coating as well, which makes them anti-reflective and smudge-resistant. I was able to wear it for extended periods without any discomfort. If you are trying to choose between the Fremont and the Campbell, it will just come down to your sense of fashion. You can’t go wrong with either pair.

The blue light and UV protection that Gunnar glasses offer really make a difference, at least for me. After wearing each pair for an extended period of time, my eyes were nowhere near as tired as they would be when I didn’t use them. The different options that you have are nice, too, being able to select the lens tint on some of the models, and a few of them even have an option for sunglasses. For those who want to use Gunnar as their standard glasses, they do offer prescription glasses as well.

The Gunnar website offers many different options, so if you like what you have read about these different models, be sure to check it out to see what you like. Personally, I think I like the Fremont model the best, although there will definitely be days when I utilize the Overwatch Reaper glasses when I want to tune everything else out.

If you are in the market for blue light glasses that also offer UV protection, I highly recommend Gunnar.
