First (and Last) Impressions: Hark the Raven, lack of RPG, nevermore!
As every Nintendo 64 owner knows, there were no good third party RPG's for the N64. The only half-decent RPG released for the N64 was Paper Mario, however there was almost no challenge to it, so it was overlooked. Luckily, Gamecubers will not have to suffer from a lack of this genre. This is because of our friend (and maker of Metroid Prime), Retro Studios. Retro is grabbing talent everywhere from places like EA, Acclaim and many more. This talented company is showing everyone a new beautiful RPG entitled, Raven Blade. Even though little has been released about Raven Blade, due to Retro being so Сhush-hush', we have still been able to put some facts together, to write a very informative preview.
From what we have gathered Raven Blade is an epic tale that seats its player as a sword bearing knight who can use magic and other weapons to aid him in his quest to find the all-powerful sword called, "Raven Blade." You will adventure into populated villages, ancient ruins, creepy dungeons and many other beautifully landscaped areas. Raven Blade will also require you to battle against gruesome and terrifying winged, fire-breathing dragons and many other frightening, and dangerous monsters! There also happens to be a female character, however details about her role in the game have yet to be disclosed.
Unlike the popular series Final Fantasy, Raven Blade's battles will not be turn based. Instead, you will have the opportunity to engage in 3D, real-time battles. The advance 3D engine Raven Blade is using will allow for realistic and high-polygon models for these battles. The movements will be swift, fast and so real, you'll be thinking you are watching Gladiator.
Visually, Raven Blade has a lot going for it. The marvelous landscapes really amazed anyone who has seen the screenshots and movies around the net, as well as the lighting effects. The characters look incredible and extremely realistic. The effects from the magical spells looked great as well. The steam rising from evaporating water and the air, melting around the fire released by a huge dragon, look magnificent. Almost too real, but nevertheless outstanding. The only way you will understand how awesome the graphics for Raven Blade are is to check out the screenshots. It is truly spectacular!

The worlds and characters are beautifully made, and the story line (however yet to unveiled) seems like it could be very unique and deep.
