News: Never before have so many identical pointy-eared beings converged on a single disc...
While an unofficial release date for Nintendo's special УLegend of Zelda Collector's EditionФ GameCube bundle has been floating around, Nintendo has now officially confirmed it. As expected, you'll be able to get the GameCube and the special Zelda pack-in disc at retailers starting Nov. 17.
"This offer is the ultimate treat for fans of The Legend of Zelda series," said George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president, marketing and corporate communications. "Just buy a Nintendo GameCube at the new low MSRP of $99.99, and you get the special The Legend of Zelda offer at no additional cost."
The disc includes four complete old, older and oldest-school Zelda titles: NES games The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and Nintendo 64 games The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. Curiously, A Link to the Past, the Super NES' entry into the world of Hyrule, is not included in the collection. However, the disc does include a playable demo of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, as well as a special segment on the history The Legend of Zelda series. It's doubtful such a documentary will be History Channel-quality, but it should be somewhat interesting nonetheless.
If you already have a GameCube, there are other ways to procure the collection, which you can find out at Nintendo's official site. But be warned: One of them includes a subscription to Nintendo Power...
This collection has also been rumored to also be included with the upcoming GameCube version of The Legend of Zelda: The Four Swords. However, as of now, Nintendo has made no indication that this will be the case.
