Sonic Week: A week celebrating Sonic after his ten and continuing years of giving seems in order to me

Time flies doesn't it? It feels like just yesterday that I was at Circuit City, picking up my Sega Genesis and beginning my years of Sega loyalty. But things might not have gone this way had my Genesis not come with Sonic the Hedgehog 2, a game I still regard as one of my favorites to this day. Well, almost 7 years, more than 8 consoles, and countless games later, Sonic the Hedgehog has finally turned ten years old. Talk about a child star!

Sonic has garnered a place as one of the most recognizable game characters in the world (right behind some plumber) and has reached some heights no game character ever has. He was the only gaming character ever in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade for god sake! He has had multiple shoe endorsements, first Reebok and now Soaps! Sonic has done it all, he's even appeared in cans of Spaghetti-O's. He's had watches, lunch boxes, boxers, and just about every other marketable item imaginable.

In commemoration of Sonic's achievements, your Sega Target Editor In Chief (AKA: biggest Sonic fan ever!) and the rest of our Sega Target staff present Sonic Week! In which we'll cover as much Sonic ground as possible, and then we'll top it off with a thorough review of Sonic Adventure 2, a game that Sonic Team believes to be the best Sonic game ever! Sound good? It will be!

Here's to another 10 years of Sonic loving, and remember this Wednesday, when you're playing your shiny copy of Sonic Adventure 2, think of Yuji Naka, Hirokazu Yasuhara, and Haoto Oshima, the men behind the original Sonic the Hedgehog game. Without them, gaming may not be where it is today. Kudos guys! And to all our GT readers, enjoy Sonic Week! It's going to be one heck of a ride!

You can find all of our Sonic Week Updates right here and throughout Sega Target this week:
