News: The first details and screens on the small screen sequel to F-Zero: Maximum Velocity.
Nintendo of Europe has announced that a sequel to F-Zero: Maximum Velocity is on it's way to the Game Boy Advance in the form of F-Zero 2. The game is currently on track for an unspecified 2004 release in Europe and we in North America can only assume the same.
In addition to all of the great F-Zero action that any sequel is sure to bring, Nintendo has announced a slew of new features and modes for F-Zero 2. The first of these features, and the one Nintendo is touting the most, is the Story Mode. Similar in style to the story mode found in F-Zero GX, "each level is told from the perspective of a different character, whose story is fleshed out through the use of anime-style cut-scenes." The story mode allows a plot to develop throughout the game that is changedаdependingаupon your actions in each level.аNintendo gave the example that one race will feature your character capturing another driver if you win and then in a subsequent race you will play as the captured racer and try to escape.
Another new mode is the Zero Test mode, which Nintendo has said will be a collection of mini-games (which Nintendo calls "massive") that will test your F-Zero racing prowess. Who could have guessed from the title?
Of course it wouldn't be an F-Zero game without a Grand Prix mode and F-Zero 2 will include three skill levels, with three championships in each, and 15 total circuits. Training and Time Attack modes will also naturally be included.
The first four screenshots have also been released, which you can check out right here. We'll keep you posted as more is released.
