Final Fantasy XI and PS2 Hard Drive are in stores now: After many delays and a very long wait, the Hard Drive/Final Fantasy XI combo are ready to go for the PS2.
Sony has announced that the long awaited Internal Hard Disk Drive is finally ready and is in stores now. Also in this $99 package is a copy of Final Fantasy XI, Square's Massively Multiplayer edition of their flagship series. The online only Final Fantasy XIаis onlyаavailable with the Hard Drive and requires it to play.
"True to its business philosophy of delivering technology when the market is ready and with full content support, the Hard Disk Drive delivers the features that consumers want most," said Andrew House, executive vice president, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "With 2.6 million network ready PlayStation 2 consoles in more than 25 million homes throughout North America, the internal Hard Disk Drive paves the way for delivering countless forms of digital entertainment to this massive audience."
The 40 GB drive will add many new features to the PS2 and actually make it more like an Xbox. Games that utilize the hard drive will be able to store data on the hard drive for faster load times, game saves and ownloadable content.
