News: It's official, the big black box sheds $30 or roughly 16 pounds.
Microsoft has spread the word to retailers today: the Xbox is officially priced at $149.99 as of today. A quick trip around the Internet reveals that retailers have already marked down their stock and that the new price is yours for the taking.
In the announcement Microsoft quoted, of all people, P. Diddy/Puff Daddy/Sean Combs: "I love playing Xbox games and believe that the system's cultural influence as a social entertainment brand has only just begun."
MS has also lowered the prices of many of it's games to join this system price cut. Voodoo Vince, Grabbed by the Ghoulies and the Xbox Music Mixer have all dropped to $19.99. Also going to $19.99 are the first two PlatniumаFamily Hits titles: Finding Nemo and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Finally, Project Gotham Racing 2, Crimson Skies and Counter-Strike have all been slashed to $29.99.
Analysts at CNET believe Sony will counter with a similar cut in April, but nothing is concrete as of yet.
