News: George Romero's Living Dead universe will rise on consoles next year.

After Resident Evil found inspiration in the work of George Romero to create Raccoon City and Umbrella, Hip Games and Kuju Interactive will return the favor by bringing Romero's Dead series to unnamed consoles and the PC.

The game also has no official title, but I'd assume both Night of the Living Dead and Land of the Dead (the title of Romero's next film in the series) are possibilities. Land of the Dead will arrive in theaters in October and according to Hip, the Living Dead game is scheduled to be released before March 31, 2006.

No specific game details were revealed, but as always, there are quotes from the main players:

"With George A. Romero's cult status and following among horror fans, a property of this pedigree deserves a first class developer and that is exactly what horror fans will get now that we've signed high profile developer Kuju Entertainment," said Arindra Singh, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hip Interactive Corp.

Ian Baverstock, Business Development Director and co-founder of Kuju Entertainment, said, "Our spines are tingling in anticipation. George A. Romero is recognized as one of the leading directors in the horror world. We're excited to be translating the zombies and terror created in George's imagination into an atmospheric gorefest for game players." He continued, "We're also extremely pleased to be working with Hip Interactive, which has become a publishing force to be reckoned with."

Hip Games has previously been a publisher of mostly GBA and PC releases but will finally branch into console titles with the release of Stolen for the PS2 and Xbox in March. The team at Kuju was last seen developing Call of Duty: Finest Hour for all three consoles.

As soon as we know more about the Living Dead, it'll rise to the top of our news page.
