News: The Doom 3 developer has been purchased by Activision.
After several days of swirling rumors that said News Corp. was looking at the possibility of purchasing them, Activision has turned around and acquired Vicarious Visions.
The deal says that Vicarious Visions' will become a wholly owned subsidary of Activision. They will also take over VV's headquarters in Troy, NY and have already signed many of their employees to long term contracts. The acquisition also includes Vicarious Visions' Alchemy development kit.
Vicarious Visions is currently putting the finishing touches on Doom 3 for the Xbox and Spider-Man 2 for the PSP launch. They last worked on Spider-Man 2 for the DS, which is the best selling third party game on the system.
Filings with the SEC indicate the deal was completed for $5 million of Activision stock.
