News: First details on EA's adaptation of The Godfather.
The Godfather will be making the PS2, Xbox and PSP an offer they can't refuse this Fall. After a year of knowing that it exists (and seeing first footage at this year's Spike TV Game Awards), EA has opened the office to The Godfather's door just a little wider.
You'll start as a lowly street thug working your way up to a made man in the Corrleone crime family. You will be given criminal orders by the family including mob hits, bank heists, drive-bys and extortion. Spanning the years 1945-1955, if you earn the respect of the family you can break on your own as a Don. EA has said that all decisions that you make in the game will affect other parts of the game later. A true, living, breathing underworld.
And those orders will come from the real members of the Corrleone family. James Caan (Sonny), Robert Duvall (Tom Hagen) and The Godfather himself, Vito Corrleone (Marlon Brando, with voiceover recorded before his death) will all supply their voices and likenesses to the game.
"We are incredibly excited and honored to have the opportunity to bring the fiction of The Godfather to life in a videogame," said David DeMartini, EA's Executive Producer of the game. "The Godfather movies raised the standard for cinematic achievement with their high level of drama and intense storytelling and in fall 2005 gamers will be able to experience that dangerous and living world of The Godfather for themselves."
"We are thrilled to partner with Electronic Arts to bring this exceptional content into the interactive world," said Sandi Isaacs, Vice President of Interactive from Nickelodeon & Viacom Consumer Products. "The Godfather is a crown jewel of Paramount Pictures. We are confident this game will deliver the depth of the experience expected by The Godfather movie fans around the world."
When The Don says so, we'll bring you more about The Godfather.
