News: Atari and Shiny are teaming up for another Matrix game.
It's been an open secret in video game reporting circles that Atari was working on another Matrix game. We just didn't know the details, but today we do. Today Atari announced The Matrix: Path of Neo, which will be coming to the PS2 and Xbox around Christmastime this year.
The Matrix: Path of Neo will do something that gamers have wanted out of a Matrix game since the first movie: to play as Neo. Path of Neo will follow Neo's adventures through the Matrix Trilogy. Atari failed to reveal any details about which parts of the trilogy players would be able to relive, but can you imagine a game like this without the Lobby shootout? OK, now imagine what the Lobby shootout would be like in a game. I can wait.
Path of Neo will be looked over very closely by the Wachowski Brothers, who will script and direct many sections of the game. The liknesses of Keanu Reeves (Neo), Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus), Carrie-Ann Moss (Trinity), and Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith) will lend a cinematic flair to everything. Scenes from all three Matrix movies and The Animatrix will also propel the story forward. As with Enter the Matrix, Atari has once again tapped Shiny Entertainment to bring Neo back to video games.
We'll have more when Atari jacks in more information to the Gaming Target staff.
