News: The Riddick developers are ready for the next-generation.
Majesco and Starbreeze Studios today announced that they are developing The Darkness for next-generation consoles. Starbreeze was last responsible for the critically acclaimed Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay.
The Darkness is based on a Top Cow comic book and features Jackie Estacado as a "fearless Mafia hitman who is suddenly possessed by the terrifying and spectacular powers of The Darkness". Players will go through the first and third person environments of the game mastering the powers of The Darkness while taking on the mob. Players will also have the option of a ton of multiplayer modes in addition to the single player game.
"We are excited to have secured Starbreeze, a highly talented and respected team, to develop one of our first titles for the next generation of video game consoles," said Jesse Sutton, president of Majesco. "Combining the top-tier development talent and technology of Starbreeze with the compelling content of Top Cow's The Darkness comic book series provides a solid foundation for success."
The storyline and dialogue for the The Darkness will be written by Paul Jenkins, one of the main writers of comic book series.
The game is currently scheduled for a 2006 release date on unnamed next-generation consoles but assuming Starbreeze's history with the Xbox and the release dates of the PS3 and Revolution, I'd say an Xbox Next release is almost certain.
We'll have more as it comes into the light.
