News: The first bomb: an Xbox version is coming. The second bomb: there is no second bomb.
After having their secret blown several weeks ago, Eidos has announced the first official details of Tomb Raider Legend. And the big news is that the game is coming to the Xbox as well as the previously announced PS2 version.
"In setting the stage for the Tomb Raider franchise moving forward, we took ourselves back to Lara's origins, asked ourselves the hard questions and challenged ourselves to think differently," said Chip Blundell, vice president of brand marketing, Eidos Inc. "Who is Lara Croft? What makes her tick? How is she relevant today? Only by answering these questions could we ensure that gamers get the experience they deserve with the character they love."
Eidos revealed that work began on Tomb Raider Legend a year and a half ago and revealed Crystal Dyanamics quest to get to know the real Lara Croft. They "unearthed past consumer surveys, conducted new research, re-read every game review, listened to lots of passionate pleas and opinions from gamers and re-played through every Tomb Raider product" in their quest.
This doesn't really reveal any of the gameplay details and all Eidos was forthcoming with was that Lara would be handling a magnetic grappling device, binoculars, frag grenades, personal lighting device and communications equipment.
No release date was revealed, but Eidos did say that more would be revealed at tombraider.com next tuesday, April 12. Then there's always the June 30, 2006 release date deadline that Eidos talked about in their financial statement.
That same financial statement also produced the news that Tomb Raider Legend would be coming to the PSP and the Xbox Next, but no details of those versions were announced at this time.
We'll have more to report next tuesday and I'm sure we'll learn a lot more at E3.
