News: THQ resurrects the greatest demon killer ever for another game.
THQ announced that horror-movie icon Ash would be returning to his Deadite slaying ways this summer in Evil Dead Regeneration. The game will hit the PS2 and the Xbox and is said to be a spiritual sequel to Evil Dead 2.
After the events of Evil Dead 2 (and presumably Army of Darkness), Ash walks out of the forest and back to civilization. His friends have been slaughtered and the police demand an explanation. However, the justice system does not accept a plea of demonic possession, so Ash is sent to Sunny Meadows Asuylum for the Criminally Insane. There he meets Dr. Reinhard, a psychiatrist who wants to harness the Necronomicon evil powers for science (and evil) but instead "leaves mankind with that not-so-fresh apocalyptic feeling".
Regeneration is being developed by THQ internal studio Cranky Pants Games, who previously worked on GameCube ports of Red Faction II and Summoner: A Goddess Reborn. Thankfully, they have enlisted Bruce Campbell to once again voice Ash and have lined up his Evil Dead expertise to provide "creative direction" in Sam Raimi's absence.
"It's our goal to create the spiritual successor of Evil Dead 2, one of the seminal action films ever, in pop-culture," said David Bollesen, general manager, Cranky Pants Games. "Having Bruce Campbell on board, providing creative direction and embracing new ideas we've injected into their universe is critical, and their enthusiasm continues to drive us to deliver the ultimate Evil Dead experience."
Of course the last word is from the king himself, Ash:
"I've come to understand that there is only one person in this world fit for this kind of work. And that's me. Not because of my knack to get things right, most of the time, but because I can slice and dice evil better than a knife sold on any late-night infomercial. Maybe it's partially to the fact that I've replaced one of my hands with a chainsaw, but I digress."
