News: Rockstar has got some 'splaining to do.
Oh boy, the s*** is gonna hit the fan now. Message boards have been buzzing today with rumors of a code to unlock the Hot Coffee mod in the PS2 version of San Andreas. If you'll recall, Rockstar's carefully issued statement seemed to say that they did not create the Hot Coffee content, but instead it was the work of rogue hackers.
Today, the ever intrepid Kotaku tracked down a set of codes that were said to unlock the mod with the Action Replay Max cheat device.
GameSpot then went and put these codes to the test on a sealed, untampered with version of San Andreas. Not surprisingly, they worked and the boys at GameSpot were treated to some pooly animated video game coitus. This effectively puts an end to the ESRB's investigation of just who is responsible for the Hot Coffee and is just the kind of slipup the anti-video game crusaders need to pounce. It will be interesting (and a little scary) to see where the ESRB and the politicians take this now. We can only assume at this point that the mod is buried somewhere in the Xbox version as well.
Rockstar has yet to officially comment on this latest development.
