News: Microsoft is giving the PomPom guys another shot at the Xbox Live Arcade.
Microsoft is determined to learn from the mistakes of their previous attempt at the Xbox Live Arcade and are readying the 360 version for the system's launch later this year. They've also done away with the requirement of needing an Xbox Live Arcade game disc to play the games, the program will be available out of the box to all Xbox Live users. To help with the new rollout they have again partnered with PomPom Games to create two more entries in their acclaimed Mutant Storm series.
The original Mutant Storm was a Smash TV-like shooter that placed players in the middle of an alien universe. The first Mutant Storm game PomPom has planned for the 360 is a reengineered version of this original, codenamed Reloaded, with enhanced 360 graphics and features. This one is scheduled to hit Xbox Live for download at the 360 launch.
Next on the menu is Mutant Storm 2, codenamed (you guessed it) Revoultions.
Ross Erickson of Microsoft enthused, "Not only are we excited about this news, but we know our gamers will be equally enthusiastic. Mutant Storm's popularity is only growing and we look forward to offering this fantastic new title on Xbox 360."
Said John Cook of Bad Management, PomPom's representative, "This is recognition by one of the biggest companies in the world that small independent developers still have a valuable commercial contribution to make at the top table of the interactive entertainment industry."
Mutant Storm 2 will arrive on Xbox Live Arcade sometime in 2006.
So it looks like Microsoft is shoring up the Xbox Live download service and we already know what Nintendo has planned. I wonder what the PS3 will offer for downloadable toys?
We'll have more on Mutant Storm as it's revealed.
