News: The director has signed a deal to create three titles for EA.
Steven (Indiana Jones, Close Encoutners of the Third Kind, Jaws and countless other geek staples) Spielberg has signed a deal with Electronic Arts to bring three of his ideas to video game life.
Spielberg will work with EA LA (creator of the Medal of Honor games and former member of Spielberg's DreamWorks empire) on the concept, story and design of a trio of original games. With this deal, EA will hold all the rights to any future games based on these ideas and Spielberg will get the first crack at directing and/or producing any movie or television adapatations of these titles.
What systems these titles will appear on, when they might appear or what they could possibly be about are all obviously unknown at this time. However, Neil Young, the head of EA LA did say "Who is a better person to tackle that challenge [of new technology in upcoming game consoles] than Steven Spielberg?" So definitely look for these titles on either the Xbox 360, PS3 or the Revolution.
"I have been playing EA games for years and have watched them master the interactive format." said Steven Spielberg. "Having watched the game industry grow from a niche into a major creative force in entertainment, I have a great deal of respect for EA's understanding of the interactive format. I'm looking forward to working closely with the team in Los Angeles."
We'll keep you posted.
