10 Best PlayStation 2 Villains
10. Cross
From: Radiata Stories
Publisher: Square Enix
Developer: tri-Ace
Released: September 6, 2005
Crossing with Cross will just get you X's over your eyes. Okay, that was lame. Cross is that bold and rude type of bad guy from whom sees the whole picture but just doesn't get it. He's so caught up in his bias of the fairy race that he's willing to spin words and make up lies to get his way.
9. Lance Vance
From: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Publisher: Rockstar Games
Developer: Rockstar North
Released: October 29, 2002
The good guys of the Grand Theft Auto series are bad of course; but, in a way they're the only heroes the games embody. That makes them anti-heroes. Of course, that goes without saying that Grand Theft Auto is filled with nothing but bad guys. Which, in theory, would go for them too. But let's focus on the real sinister people of the series for a second. Ones like Lance Vance who was Tommy's friend in Vice City up until a certain point when he turns on him and you end up having to face off against the bastard traitor. Lance's deceptive scheming and just his name alone makes him totally right for the part of a cooler than cool bad happening mamma jamma.
8. Janus Cascade
From: Wild Arms 3
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment America
Developer: MediaVision
Released: October 15, 2002
I like it when heroes and villains undergo special circumstances to lose something and gain something back. It makes them more unique by comparison, and very cool. If a character loses a leg, or an arm, or even dies and gets resurrected, that's worth exploring usually. Janus has that kind of thing going for him. Because of it, you can say he's a two-faced vermin. His impudent nature also scores him points for being that kind of slick, skillful personality you'd love to keep your eye on and see what he has up his sleeve next.
7. Viola
From: Zone of the Enders, Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner
Publisher: Konami
Developer: Konami JPN
Released: March 27, 2001/March 11, 2003
A good word for Viola is bitch. Yep, she's that kind of female psycho who'll do anything to get her target. After all, the only purpose of this purple-haired vixen has in life anymore is to die. Her endless quest to find the brave warrior who can kill her drives her to an obsession with both heroes in the Zone of the Enders series. Viola's deadly mech-piloting skills also top the cherry of her status as a bad, bad girl.
6. Pyramid Head
From: Silent Hill 2
Publisher: Konami
Developer: Konami TYO
Released: September 25, 2001
What a stupid name, huh? Pyramid Head. Names shouldn't matter much though when you're this guy. Literally, his head is shaped like a triangle, but his body resembles an enormous and terrifyingly disturbed main baddie in Silent Hill 2. You'll see Pyramid Head get "nasty" with a living mannequin. You'll see Pyramid Head come after James with the giant sword that he carries. You'll see him stand frozen behind bars in a darkened apartment hallway, just watching and doing nothing. How creepy is that?
5. Baron Praxis
From: Jak II
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment America
Developer: Naughty Dog Software
Releases: October 14, 2003
Large and in charge, Baron Praxis is that kind of main bad guy that's an intimidating evil all the way through. But eventually, he does show off some redeeming qualities. He's kind of like Jak's Bowser, if Jak were Mario. Praxis isn't just a big generic fireball-spewing meanie, though. His part in this story is actually the reason why Jak becomes mean. Because Praxis had captured and tortured the good-natured Jak for two long years using Dark Eco experimentations, Jak metamorphosed into a tougher anti-hero-like hero. It also gave him the ability to speak. Funny how Dark Eco does that to mutes. Because Baron Praxis is also one challenging boss to face against (showing up a few different times in new and interesting ways), he naturally gets the nod for one of the system's best villains.
4. Revolver Ocelot
From: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Publisher: Konami
Developer: Konami JPN
Released: November 13, 2001/November 17, 2004
We've seen him old and without a hand. We've seen him with Liquid Snake's hand. We've even seen him as a young fool, whose ass was so easily kickable by Snake (who MGS fans would refer to as someone else). Revolver Ocelot is the type of bad guy who's all over the place. He's a double-dealing, triple-side-wielding, bullet-reflecting kind of guy. When everyone's bruised and beaten, in the end he's the one who's always laughing last.
3. Albedo
From: Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner
Publisher: Konami
Developer: Konami JPN
Released: March 11, 2003
"Now that's
good crazy!" That's what you will be saying after getting to know the most psychotic bastard of all on the PlayStation 2. Albedo is all villain. His infatuation with dragging around an inanimate doll. His love of bringing pain to Rubedo (Jr.). His wicked laughter. Just his amazingly evil voice and look. Albedo is the epitome of maniacal manifestations, and that's why he's so great.
2. Seymour
From: Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2
Publisher: Squaresoft
Developer: Squaresoft
Released: December 18, 2001/November 18, 2003
For those of you who haven't yet completed or experienced Final Fantasy X yet, I'm going to spoil something big here. So go away. NOW.
Highlight this space...
Seymour dies.
That's part of what makes him so ingenious a villain as he is. A boss that's half alive and half dead who cannot die, and who is fitted with one of the most perfect voice talents does a lot to give Seymour a top spot on the list.
But just so you realize, these elements do not chaarcterize him as better than most exclusively. There's his whole deal with other miscellaneous aspects as well (the wedding sequence, the first confrontation against Seymour, etc.)
1. The Boss
From: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Publisher: Konami
Developer: Konami JPN
Released: November 17, 2004
The Boss isn't the best villain because she was entirely sinister. In fact, she was considerably less evil than most of gaming's entire roster of dark forces combined. However, The Boss didn't need a whole gallon of corruption to control her in a cool way. Her trick of the hand by taking sides against Snake in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and then beating the crap out of him is enough to make you go, "Wow!" Keeping in mind that The Boss is both hot and that The Boss has possibly the best "boss fight" on the system together rates her as my number one.
Tune in tomorrow for the exciting conclusion with all the busty babes and bad games I can muster!
