News: "And we were all yelllllll-oooooooo!"
EA has announced that they have reacquired the license to produce games based on The Simpsons. EA previously published Simpsons: Road Rage and The Simpsons Skateboarding, among others, before VU Games purchased the license. This new deal is said to cover multiple games over a "long-term."
The game will be developed by EA Redwood Shores and will launch on next-generation systems at some future date. No other details were revealed at this time. But I pray to the Video Game Gods that it won't be a sequel to Simpsons Skateboarding.
"This is a great opportunity for our talented development team to collaborate with the brilliant minds of The Simpsons to bring original Simpsons material to videogame fans," said Nick Earl, Vice President and General Manager, EA Redwood Shores Studio. "This is something EA's been interested in for years and now game development and technology is at a place where The Simpsons characters and world will really come alive in these games."
In the end, Simpsons producer James L. Brooks put it all in perspective: "I think this is a great opportunity for us, primarily because it brings with it the possibility of free EA games."
