News: Two new Mega Man games have been announced for the PSP.

A few months back at the Tokyo Game Show, Capcom revealed two new Mega Man titles: remakes of Mega Man and Mega Man X. Today, Capcom announced those titles are coming to America as well.

Mega Man: Powered Up is a remake of the NES original that adds plenty of new goodies to the game. A graphical facelift gives Powered Up an anime vibe that features "super sized cartoon heads". Other features include:

  • Remixed background music and level designs.
  • All new cut scenes before boss battles
  • Two new boss characters, each with their own newly designed stages
  • Play as any of the eight boss robots in the game

The other major addition to Powered Up is a level editor that allows players to create any level they wish for Mega Man and with the PSP's Internet options they can share those levels with their friends. If that's not enough, the Mega Man Challenge 100 gives players 100 short levels, "each with its own objectives and challenges."

Fans of the NES original should be pleased to know that it will be playable as well.

Mega Man X moved the series into the future and introduced Sigma and the Maverick Hunters to the Megaverse. Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X revamps the game just as Powered Up did with enhanced graphics and remixed music. A level editor will not be included with Maverick Hunter X, but fully voiced cut scenes will propel the story deeper than ever before. In fact, after completing the game, players will be able to watch an animated movie that explores the history of the Mega Man X world.

Players that beat the game will also unlock a "second quest" that will allow them to play a new story as Mega Man's archenemy Vile.

Both games are scheduled for release in Early 2006.
