News: Can you say "Mortal Kombat!" one last time?

The February issue of Game Informer has revealed what we've all suspected for a while now, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is upon us. The game is coming to the PS2 and Xbox this October and will put an end to the Mortal Kombat series as we know it.

Kombat creator Ed Boon was quoted in the article about how he wants finality for the Mortal Kombat universe. He also wants a battlefield of broken bodies and a final, true winner of the Mortal Kombat tournament.

For Boon and company to accomplish this they plan to bring back "every character that has ever thrown a punch in a Mortal Kombat tournament." That means a roster of 60+ characters. All of them, except possibly for Motaro (the centaur from Mortal Kombat 3), who may not make the cut.

Boon also talked about several other changes to this ultimate MK fighter:
  • Reinvention of the Fatality system
  • Aerial combos are being added
  • A new Konquest mode based on the Shaolin Monks engine
  • Directional throwing like in Shaolin Monks
  • Create-A-Fighter mode

I don't know about you, but as a Mortal Kombat fan I'm very excited. Ridiculously excited even.
