News: And exclusive to Windows Vista users.
Microsoft has announced that Halo 2 will be coming to PCs in the very near future, although they didn't reveal exactly when that would be.
The other twist is that Halo 2 will only be playable on Windows Vista, the next upgrade to Microsoft's 800 pound gorilla of an operating system. Vista is currently scheduled for a September release at the earliest (with others placing it closer to December), so don't expect Halo 2 anytime before that.
Halo 2 for the PC will include all of the singleplayer and multiplayer maps from Halo 2 and the Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack. As a bonus, PC owners will get to "build, create and customise their own multiplayer levels." For now, that's the only bonus feature Microsoft was willing to divulge.
Sadly, Halo 2 PC is not being developed by Bungie (thus fueling the Halo 3 is in development RIGHT NOW! rumors even more). Instead it's being developed by a team at Microsoft Game Studios. But Bungie is working "in partnership" with that team and ready to supply any Halo knowledge that is needed.
We'll round up some more info on Halo 2 (and Halo 3) soon.
