News: IGN has the dirt, we have the highlights.

Yesterday, IGN spoke with David Perkinson of LucasArts and he has spilled the beans about Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy. Yes, the rumors are true! (Although, was there ever a doubt?) The interview doesn't get very in-depth about what to expect from The Original Trilogy, but here are the highlights:

  • The game is again being developed by Travellers Tales and is coming to the PS2, GameCube, Xbox, PC, PSP, GBA and DS this fall.

  • It will feature 50 new playable characters and allow you to import all of your playable characters from Lego Star Wars for a total of over 100.

  • Furthermore, a character creation mode will allow players to mix and match Lego pieces from every character. Hello Chew Vader.

  • The vehicle levels will no longer be "on rails". They'll be free roaming like the rest of the game.

  • Players will also be able to jump in and out of vehicles throughout many of the "on foot" levels as well.

  • Characters will now have character-specific attacks. For example, Chewbacca will be able to rip off the arms of other characters.

  • The collectible Mini-Kits will now unlock bonus vehicles that can be used in the game.

  • Finally, the DS version will feature 4-player co-op with one game card.

Well I'm very excited now. We'll have more on Lego Star Wars II soon.
