News: And a new puzzle game is announced as well.

Nintendo has finally (finally!) broken their silence about New Super Mario Bros. (which is the official title now) and announced that it will be shipping for the DS on May 7. That will make it exactly 14 years and five months since the last side scrolling Super Mario Bros. game.

The more things change, the more they stay the same as Princess Peach will be kidnapped again in New Super Mario Bros. and it's up to Mario and Luigi to save her. To do that they'll be given some new powers including the Blue Shell, which our favorite plumbers can ride and a Super Super Mushroom that makes them as large as the screen.

Nintendo also took this oppurtunity to announce a new puzzle game for the DS with Magnetica:

"In Magnetica, marbles roll down a twisted path toward the goal and it's up to players to stop them by launching new marbles into the oncoming ones. The marbles will disappear if players match three or more in this massive marble elimination. All actions are controlled with the stylus in this title that satisfies even the strongest puzzle addiction."

Magnetica ships June 5. With Metroid Prime: Hunters, Tetris DS, Brain Age and now New Super Mario Bros., it's going to be a very exciting time for the DS. Strap yourselves in.
