News: And it's only going to grow.
At the DICE conference in February, Reggie Fils-Aime pointed out that the Nintendo Wi-Fi service was nearing 1 million users. Yesterday, Nintendo announced the service crossed 1 million players with an Animal Crossing: Wild World player in Japan.
"Players are embracing our model of a compelling, safe, easy-to-use wireless gaming service," says Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing. "Those 1 million users represent more than 27 million game sessions."
In addition to Animal Crossing, Mario Kart DS is leading the charge with NiWiFi Connection users. And in a few weeks it's only going to get crazier when Tetris DS and Metroid Prime: Hunters launch on March 20.
I'm guessing 2 million users will happen really quick.
