News: No, not during the armageddon -- just the upcoming Spawn game...
Fans of the comic book Spawn have seen a mysterious character lurking in the shadows from time to time, who often gives the dark hero advice and wisdom. Now, Namco and Todd McFarlane Productions are ready to strip at least some of the mystery from this individual, as his name will finally be revealed in Spawn: Armageddon, an action-adventure title coming out on all three consoles. Or rather, his name already been revealed: Mammon. Besides his role in the upcoming game, Mammon will begin playing a much larger part in the comic book, as well.
"Bringing Mammon, his personality and the intense history between Mammon and Spawn to the forefront of the franchise's storyline is something that I've been thinking about since I originally wrote the character into the script," said Spawn creator Todd McFarlane. "When the opportunity arose to introduce Mammon through the Spawn video game, it was obvious that this was the way to roll out the red carpet for the character. Good, neutral or evil, it's safe to say that Spawn fans will have the opportunity to get to know Mammon in much greater detail over the next several comic book episodes and, of course, the new Spawn game."
Spawn: Armageddon will feature more than 25 missions, and is based on the first 99 issues of the Spawn comic book. Armageddon is part of Namco's deal with McFarlane Productions, which also allowed Spawn himself to appear as a playable character in the Xbox version of Soul Calibur II.
"We are proud that Todd McFarlane has chosen Namco's game as a place to reveal more about this intriguing character," said Glen Cureton, producer at Namco Hometek, the company's U.S. consumer division. "Fans of Spawn can finally put a name to this mysterious character, who has played, and will continue to play, such an important role in the dark hero's story."
