News: Ubisoft now owns the rights to the popular FPS series.
Ubisoft has announced they have struck a deal with Crytek to purchase all rights to the Far Cry series and the Far Cry Edition of Crytek's CryEngine.
If you couldn't navigate all that crying it boils down like this: Ubisoft now owns the full rights to create an unlimited number of add-ons, sequels and spin-offs of Far Cry on any gaming platform. Ubisoft is also able to create original content using the Far Cry Edition of Crytek's CryEngine. Crytek has already moved behind that version of their popular game engine and are developing an original game, Crysis, with the CryEngine 2.
"Far Cry is one of Ubisoft's most successful brands and this agreement is one further step in our strategy to constantly enrich our catalogue of fully owned brands. With Far Cry, we look forward to further consolidating our leading position in the first person shooters genre" said Yves Guillemot, President & CEO of Ubisoft Entertainment.
