News: 8-ball? 9-ball? What's your pleasure?

Late last night, Sega announced World Pool Championship 2007 for the PS2 and World Poll Challenge 2007 for the PSP. Both games are being developed by Blade Interactive for a Fall 2006 release.

Both games will feature some of the world's best professional players and a Create-A-Player option for those that want to be themselves. Each game will include over ten real tournaments including the Mosconi Cup, World Cup, and U.S. Open. All the billiard hall classics, including 8-ball and 9-ball, will be on hand in tournament play and Golden Cue Mode, which mashes different poll styles together into one mega-tournament.

"Pool is a classic game that a wide variety of audiences can identify with," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "With a host of exciting new modes and features, both World Pool Championship 2007 and World Pool Challenge 2007 will provide new avenues for virtual hustlers to rack 'em up."

And for those that want to touch their inner Paul Newman, each game will also include a trickshooting mini-game with a World Trickshot Championship mode.

Meanwhile, Sega Europe has announced the game will go by the title World Snooker Championship 2007 in Europe and that it will also appear on the PS3 and Xbox 360. There's no word yet on whether we in America will get the next-gen edition of World Pool Championship 2007 or if Snooker (which is much more popular in Europe than in the US) will be a playable cuesport on this side of the pond.

We'll have more on World Pool Championship 2007, World Pool Challenge 2007 and Sega's next game in their Road To E3 promotion soon.
