News: Han shoots first! Han shoots first!
LucasArts announced the official release date for Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy today. The game will ship for the PS2, Xbox, GameCube, DS, GBA PSP and PC on September 12.
But the real news is that LucasFilm has announced that the original and untouched film versions of the Original Trilogy will also be released on DVD that day in indivdual 2-disc sets. There was no mention of a box set, but the individual movies are described as "attractively priced".
Each 2-disc set will also include the Special Edition that was previously released on DVD and commentary by George Lucas and various members of the cast and crew.
These sets are special in their own way as LucasFilm has said they will be Limited Editions that will go out of print and "back into the LucasFilm vault" on December 31, 2006.
While I know Star Wars fans have been clamoring for DVD versions of the original Original Trilogy for years, I also feel a little angry. It has long been rumored that Lucas would release these "Archival Editions" after releasing the Special Editions as a cash grab.
But let's face it. I'm mad, you're mad, everybody's mad... but we'll all be camped out at our local DVD haunt on September 12 with money in hand.
So savor it fanboys, Han finally shoots first... again!
