News: Most of it we already know, but go inside for the latest on EA's latest James Bond inspired adventure including the official title.
This morning EA officially revealed the first details on GoldenEye 2 and it was rather anticlimactic. Most of the information has been slowly leaked by EA representatives over the last few weeks, but a few tidbits did shine through.
Last week we told you about a possible title for GoldenEye 2 and also about reports that it wasn't coming to the GameCube. Now, we can happily tell you that GoldenEye 2 will indeed come to the Cube and that the official title is GoldenEye: Rogue Agent.
The storyline is much the same as it has always been, but now EA has revealed why the game carries the title GoldenEye. It seems that after being dismissed from MI6 for reckless brutality, the main character goes to work for supervillain Auric Goldfinger. In a fight with Goldfinger's nemesis Dr. No, the main character loses an eye and has it replaced with a golden one, earning him the nickname "GoldenEye". Excuse me if I find that reason less than convincing.
The GoldenEye character is said to be completely upgradeable and customizable as players work their way through the game. He will also meet many Bond villains including Oddjob, Xenia Onatopp, Pussy Galore and Scaramanga, who was never listed in the character sheets before. many Bond locales will make an appearance as well including "the mountains of Switzerland to the streets of Hong Kong and from Fort Knox to Dr. No's Crab Key lair in the Caribbean."
Multiplayer modes will be included in all versions, but it's been confirmed that only the PlayStation 2 will feature online play. No screenshots have been released yet and the release date is still an unspecified "sometime in 2004".
