Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse

Written by John Scalzo  on June 14, 2004

News: Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse has risen from the dead and might see the light of day yet.

Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, 3DO's bibical action game was shaping up to be a bold new direction for the company. When 3DO went bankrupt, Four Horsemen was no where to be seen on the auction block of 3DO properties and most people assumed it would just disappear into the ether. But on Friday, IGN PS2 reported that the Four Horsemen might just ride again.

They spoke to Michael Mendheim, creator and development director of the game, about it's future and the it looks bright. Mendheim confirmed that a group of investors interested in the property started Four Horsemen Entertainment L.L.C. and announced the group purchased the rights to Four Horsemenin on May 12.

He also talked about how with this new partnership, the Four Horsemen universe will stretch well beyond video games. The first batch of goodies based on Four Horsemen will be comic books and a graphic novel. Mendheim went on to say that all of the Hollywood talent, including voice actors Tim Curry and Traci Lords and FX guru Stan Winston, were still involved. Stan Winston was also linked to development of "toy and movie rights" for Four Horsemen, so it's entirely possible a big screen adaptation could eventually work it's way to the screen.

As for the game itself, Mendheim said that it would be released on "next generation consoles". Whether that means the PS2, Xbox and GameCube, like originally planned, or the PS3, Xenon, or Revolution, remains to be seen. We'll keep you posted on all the gory details.
