ShellShock: Nam '67

News: Eidos reveals it's business strategy for the rest of the year and the first move involves pushing back ShellShock: Nam '67.

Eidos Interactive announced recently that due to the soft summer season of video game sales, they are pushing the release date of ShellShock: Nam '67 back to September. ShellShock is being developed by Guerilla Games for the PS2, where development is completed, and the Xbox, with development near completion. Eidos believes that this new release date will make sure ShellShock doesn't get lost in the summer season, when video game sales are notably flat.

Eidos also commented in this business update that as a company they are becoming too reliant on key franchise titles. They particularly noted that while Hitman: Contracts has continued to chart in the top ten sellers list since it's release, the overall sales of the title are lower than they expected. And while it was not said specifically, I'm sure the loss of the TimeSplitters franchise to EA will have an effect on Eidos' bottom line.

To combat this, Eidos has said they plan to "initiate a review of the strategic alternatives" related to their key franchises. But what this actually means for the future of Eidos franchises like Tomb Raider, Legacy of Kain, Hitman and Backyard Wrestling remains to be seen.
