Penny Arcade: The Game announced @ Gaming Target

News: The inevitable has finally happened, The Penny Arcade Game is coming.

Gabe and Tycho, the animated alter-egos that run the popular Penny Arcade webcomic have been talking about PAX and a huge announcement that would occur there for a while now. Well today is August 25, the first day of the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) and that big announcement is here:

Development has begun on the first Penny Arcade video game!

The Penny Arcade game will take the form of an epiodic adventure title that will be available exclusively as a digital download for the PC, Mac OS X and Linux. As such, the first episode will be known as Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness. New episodes will be released several times a year and the word is the game will be coming to next-gen consoles as well.

The game, which is currently without a release date, is being developed by the newly formed Hothead Games. While Hothead is a new studio, all of the members of their team are "industry veterans", many of them from Radical Entertainment.

УWe're really excited to be working with Hothead Games on our first electronic adventure," said writer Jerry "Tycho" Holkins, his clawed feet resting atop a huge slab of granite. "From the moment we laid eyes on them, it was clear they had the technical and creative chops to execute our grim vision. Now that we have pooled our strengths, our dark work may truly begin." Holkins then paused to eat a rat whole.

Vlad Ceraldi, President of Hothead Games, says this new venture feels very comfortable for the team Hothead has assembled for the project: УAll our developers are industry veterans with years of experience translating characters from other media into video games, having been involved with such hits as The Simpsons Hit & Run and The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.
