News: MLB Slugfest, we hardly knew ye.
Earlier this year, 2K Games revealed that "Unnamed Games Based on MLB License" would be released in fall 2006. Well, the fall has come and gone, but 2K has made good on their promise by announcing The Bigs will be coming to the PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and PSP next summer.
The Bigs is your standard arcade action slugfest in the vein of... well... Midway's MLB Slugfest. The game will include "outrageous visuals and intuitive gameplay mechanics" along with "spectacular power-ups with outrageous special effects" to create a new baseball experience.
The game will be developed by Blue Castle Games, a new development studio that is stocked with former members of EA's MVP Baseball team.
"The Bigs is sure to turn a few heads as it pioneers a completely different way of playing an MLB video game," stated Greg Thomas, President of Visual Concepts, a 2K Sports studio. "2K Sports is always looking to deliver the most innovative and eye-catching sports video games to fans and The Bigs is one of 2K Sports' most dynamic titles to date."
The Bigs will also sport four-player online gaming and next-gen graphics with "fantastic pitching, batting, and fielding animations."
We'll have more on The Bigs soon.
