News: Sony' new service launches with five titles.
Sony's PSone emulation service for the PSP has launched on the PS3 store today. Five classics from the PlayStation era have ushered in this new era of portable gaming on the PSP.
For $5.99 each gamers can relive first party titles Crash Bandicoot, Cool Boarders, Syphon Filter and Hot Shots Golf 2. Or they can dip into Sony's deep well of third party games with Namco's Tekken 2.
Once downloaded to a PS3, the games can be downloaded to a PSP's memory stick via USB Cable. From there they are exact recreationss of the PSone originals and as such the multiplayer functions will not work with the PSP's wireless capabilities.
Sony has said that in the future they will release a patch that will enable these games to work on the PS3. However, word is that patch won't appear until the new year at least.
Sony has not said how often new PSone games will appear on the PS3 store, nor have they speculated what kind of workaround will be required to make games that use the double sticks of the Dual Shock compatible with the one-sticked PSP.
We'll have more from the wonderful world of downloadable games soon.
