News: One of the most realistic FPSs ever is getting a sequel.
Codemasters has announced they are well into development on Operation Flashpoint 2, the sequel to one of 2001's most loved first person shooters.
Codemasters will be developing OF2 for the PC and "major console formats" in-house and they are already calling it the biggest project they have ever attempted. According to the company, pre-production work on OF2 began two years ago and gamers shouldn't expect the game to ship until 2008.
The game is also being said to "redefine the genre it created" as OF2 will once again go down the ultra-realistic route, this time with a story set in the modern day. It will also include an "extensive" multiplayer component.
Bohemia Interactive, the creators of the original Operation Flashpoint released a spiritual sequel dubbed Armed Assault in Europe around the beginning of the year. You can read our import review or wait for the game's North American release in May under the title ArmA: Combat Operations.
