News: Space shooter designed by three Microsoft interns.
Microsoft has announced that Aegis Wing will be hitting the Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday and it will be a free download for both Gold and Silver members.
Aegis Wing is a side-scrolling space shooter, similar to Gradius, that was originally conceived by three Microsoft interns. The interns then took their work to Carbonated Games (the makers of Hexic HD and Uno), who helped turn their concept into a game.
The game features your basic space shooter storyline of rookie pilots tasked with stopping the alien invasion, but Aegis Wing one ups them with four-player co-op play. These co-op options also open up a set of tag team supermoves that players can use against the evil Araxian aliens.
Other features of Aegis Wing include:
Amazing environmental art
Full symphonic soundtrack
Up to four-player simultaneous cooperative multiplayer gameplay, either locally on the same Xbox 360 console or over Xbox Live
Ability to attach your ship to your wingmen's spacecraft to gain the "turret" ability and increase the firepower of the Super Weapons
Four Super Weapons: the Hades Beam (wreaks total destruction), the Gorgon Burst (wipes out incoming fire and disables enemy spacecraft with an electromagnetic pulse), the Arcus Missile (a heat-seeking missile) and the Lambda Shield (deflects incoming fire back at enemies)
Six epic missions and several memorable boss encounters to fight through

Aegis Wing will be free for a limited time only and will be available this Wednesday for download in North America only.
