News: The classic platformer is coming courtesy of Gameloft.

Ubisoft has announced they will be bringing the original Prince of Persia (from 1989) to the Xbox Live Arcade this Summer under the moniker Prince of Persia Classic.

PoP Classic will be developed by Ubisoft's mobile powerhouse Gameloft and will use the power of the Xbox 360 to freshen up the classic Prince with new "character designs, animations, visuals and lighting effects." The graphics will actually be updated with the "2 1/2D" look. Most of the characters and graphics will be updated to 3D, but the game will still be a classic 2D platformer to play. In that end, new puzzles, traps and enemies will also be added to give players a new game experience.

And for those that need a history lesson, Ubisoft has passed along a story outline for the game:

While the Sultan of Persia is away for a war, the evil Vizier seizes the throne for himself. He has also imprisoned the beautiful Princess and has given her an hour to decide her fate Ц marry him or die. As the courageous Prince, you have 60 minutes to complete the mission of saving the Princess from her deadly fate.

We'll have more on Prince of Persia Classic soon.
