News: Futuristic racer is almost finished.

Koei has announced that the Xbox 360 version of Fatal Inertia, the first game developed by Koei Canada, will ship to retailers on September 11. The one-time PlayStation 3 launch game has been delayed several times, but it appears on track now.

Speaking of the PlayStation 3 version, Koei originally revealed Fatal Intertia as an exclusive for Sony's system. Koei did not mention when that version of the game will ship, but most retailers have it listed as "TBA 2007."

But Koei executives are thrilled how the futuristic racer is turning out for the 360:

УKoei has been at the forefront of creating the most engaging action games, so with Fatal Inertia we're now lending our action game talents to the racing genre to deliver an experience that is as fun as it is fast,Ф said Senior Vice President of Koei Corporation Amos Ip. УArmed with an eclectic variety of weapons and racing challenges, plus elegant and intuitive driver controls, Fatal Inertia is quite simply bringing high-speed fun and excitement back to the combat racing genre.Ф

УBy designing Fatal Inertia's gameplay around a physics engine it not only allowed us to create a truly different driving model, but it also helped us create a set of dynamic weapons with multiple tactical applications,Ф said Lead Game Designer Michael Bond. УWe've based many of the game's weapons on straightforward physical principles, and by doing so we're giving players the freedom to come up with their own creative ways of using them- ways that even we are still discovering.Ф

We'll have more on Fatal Inertia soon.

UPDATE: According to Wired's Game|Life blog, the PS3 version has been "delayed indefinitely" because of the game's use of Unreal Engine 3, so PS3 owners wanting to give it a shot may have a long wait ahead of them.
