News: The man has two great game concepts in the works.

Newsweek and their video game guru N'Gai Croal have the scoop on two of the games Steven Spielberg is creating for EA.

The first game is the Wii-exclusive Project PQRS (a working title, obviously). According to Newsweek, PQRS is "an action-puzzle simulator that neatly blends the creativity of the building-blocks game Jenga with the charm of a Saturday-morning cartoon." This concept is coupled with an interface that turns the pointer into "an extension of your hand" to manipulate the blocks.

The second game is Project LMNO (also a working title), an action game for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Croal described LMNO as "North by Northwest meets E.T. Чif E.T. were female, grown up and, um, hot." That's mildly creepy, but the article goes on to describe just how this weird mashup will work.

LMNO takes a page from Ico and places players in the shoes of an ex-secret agent and his computer-controlled female partner (the E.T. of the comparison). Croal says "the bond that you forge while on the run with the computer-controlled womanЧgood, bad, indifferentЧdetermines the nature of her special abilities and the ways in which she'll assist you." So where does E.T. fit in? Apparently she changes colors like a mood ring with "translucent skin that lights up in different colors to express her quicksilver moods."

Spielberg is also working on a third project with EA (which has no working title yet), but it was not mentioned in the article.

The article (titled "Wii Can't Wait to Play") is online now and is currently scheduled to appear in the July 16th issue of Newsweek; or just in time for E3. So I imagine EA will have more on these Spielbergian simulations next week.
