News: And it's online.

Word has come out of Nintendo's Press Conference that the company has announced an online-enabled entry in the Mario Kart series will come to the Wii in early 2008.

Details are currently scarce, but the game was described as "not your father's Mario Kart" by Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aime and that it will feature "many characters."

The game will also come packed with a "Wii Wheel," so I'd imagine the control scheme will be much closer to Excite Truck than it would with a traditional controller.

We'll have more soon.
