News: Will this potential GOTY be ported to PS3?
As BioShock burns up this week's sales charts on Xbox 360 and the PC, the demo of the game may have just outed a future port for PlayStation 3. According to PlayStation Universe, a config.ini log file from the PC demo indicates that the game may not be an Xbox 360-console exclusive for very long.
Here's the string of code from the Program Files/2k Game/Bioshock demo/Content/config.ini file:[Console]
Console (XBox360, PS3) specific settings
StreamingDynamicFloatingLimit:
If this is a positive number, then instead of using the fixed per-level
limits, the StreamingDynamic resource will use as much memory as is
available as long as the total memory allocated by the game is less than
the specified number. In other words, StreamingDynamic will grow and
shrink to fit to the available memory instead of being locked to a fixed
budget StreamingDynamicFloatingLimit=500
While the PlayStation Universe news post goes on to confirm the game for PS3, there's no official evidence of such. 2K Games
could retort with "We were toying around with all of the consoles early on and we have no comment on BioShock for any platforms besides Xbox 360 and Games for Windows as this point in time." That would be very PR-like of them.
A PS3 version of BioShock remains unproven, but Sony fans can still take consolation in knowing 2K Games was
thinking about it if it's not actually planning it for 2008.
