News: 2K Boston's head honcho puts the kibosh on those pesky rumors.
Joystiq has conducted an interview with the man of the hour, Ken Levine, the lead designer of BioShock. The interview covers a lot of ground, including Ken's thoughts on the upcoming PC patch for improved widescreen play and copy protection woes. He also makes mention of how some people in the mainstream media have misinterpreted what it means to harvest a Little Sister in the context of the game.
But the real meat of the interview concerned those juicy "BioShock to PS3" rumors that we've been hearing for a long time. On that note, Mr. Levine had this to say:
Joystiq: Can you please explain what the PS3 mention is in the PC code?
Ken Levine: That would require me to know about gaming development code. For all I know that is some random reference some guy typed in a comment line. I promise you, there is no secret plan about the PS3 that we're keeping from people. There's no PS3 development going on that we're hiding. There's lots of stuff that gets into game code, plans change over time and we got an exclusive deal with Microsoft. We were keeping our options open, maybe it comes from back then? I'd have to talk to the [code] guys to see where that came from. That's not a Rosetta Stone discovery.
That's a rather wishy-washy response, so the Joystiq guys followed that up by asking point blank, "are you, or had you been, working on a PS3 version?" To which Mr. Levine answered, "We are not currently."
There you have it, BioShock is not coming to the PlayStation 3 right now. But be sure to check out the rest of the interview, it's a good read.
