Trivia: Final Fantasy (NES)

  • The leftmost tombstone in the Elf Village reads "Here Lies Link," a reference to the main character from The Legend of Zelda.

  • In the Japanese version, the leftmost tombstone in the Elf Village reads "Here Lies Erdrick," a reference to the legendary from the Dragon Quest series.

  • Sqaure was near bankruptcy during the development of the game and it was believed that if it flopped it would be their final game. So director Hironobu Sakaguchi christened the game "Final Fantasy".
