Part of the first wave of Nintendo's Player's Choice line on the NES.

Released in Japan for the Famicom Disk System add-on, a floppy disk attachment that featured rewriteable disks.

According to Shigeru Miyamoto, Zelda's name was inspired by Zelda Fitzgerald, wife of the famous author F. Scott Fitzgerald.
