News: Surge in PSP sales makes it sell six times as many units as the previous week.



It's a good time for Sony in the handheld market right now, having increased their PlayStation Portable sales by a whopping six times compared to the previous week's figures. On the week ending September 16 95,487 PSP units were sold with Nintendo's DS behind with 79,974 units.

Why such a sudden surge in sales? It's undoubtedly down to the release of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII selling 487,000 copies in the first week.

The hardware figures are:

PlayStation Portable: 95,487
