News: Surge in PSP sales makes it sell six times as many units as the previous week.

It's a good time for Sony in the handheld market right now, having increased their PlayStation Portable sales by a whopping six times compared to the previous week's figures. On the week ending September 16 95,487 PSP units were sold with Nintendo's DS behind with 79,974 units.

Why such a sudden surge in sales? It's undoubtedly down to the release of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII selling 487,000 copies in the first week.

The hardware figures are:

PlayStation Portable: 95,487
Nintendo DS: 75,974
Nintendo Wii: 26,181
PlayStation 2: 13,128
PlayStation 3: 13,101
Xbox 360: 1243
Game Boy Advance: 836
Nintendo GameCube: 97
